The Carro Armato M13/40 and M14/41 medium tanks would have been considered light tanks by any other army but were the most widely used tanks of the war by Italy. Often these tanks were captured and pressed into service by their captors ensuring that they continued to be used in combat after Italy surrenderred.
The Semovente Assault gun was inspired by the success of the StuG III assault gun and was armed with a respectable 75mm gun that was mounted in an armored casemate on the same chassis as the M13/M14 tanks.
