The Mortier de 58mm T N°2 (type 2) also known as the Crapouillot or ‘little toad’ from its appearance, is used in action with the colonial as well as the metropolitan troops. It can fire two different bombs of 5.35kg and 10kg explosive weight, though the heavier bomb does reduce its range from 1250 metres to 670 metres.

Though proably the simplist of all the trench mortar designs, the British Stokes mortar is a highly effective weapons. The French recognised its value and have adopted it to be used by their army where it has seen widespread use.
