This first tank design weighed about 13.6 tons and was machine-guns. The crew of six worked in a cramped space, and the tank’s layout was poor, having its sole 75mm gun on the right side of the tank, which had a poor field of view. The 60 hp Schneider gasoline engine of the CA.1 gave the tank a top speed of 8.1 kph (5 mph). However, it normally moved at 2-3 kph due to the difficulty of driving the CA.1. While not the best designed French tank of the war, the CA.1 was used until the final battles in 1918.
