The M11/39 was the main Italian tank at the start of World War II. However the M11/39 design was already 10 years out of date as the 37mm gun was hull mounted and the turret mounted twin machine guns. This poor armament layout and thin rivetted armor ensured that the vehicle was outclassed by even other early war tank designs.
