Leibstandarte SS ‘Adolf Hitler’ had participated in the blitzkrieg of both Poland and France and was expanded from a regiment-sized unit to a strong brigade just before the invasion.
The infantry platoons of the SS are mounted in trucks to keep place with the advancing panzers. The tanks are the tip of the spear, but the infantry are the ones who make the gaps to exploit and follow up to secure the ground. The Waffen-SS infantry are volunteers with several campaigns behind them, equipped with the best available to the German military.
