Compass Games Breakthrough Russia: A Game by Ernie Copley
Breakthrough Russia is a WWII strategy board game that transports players to the pivotal Eastern Front conflict spanning Summer 1941 to Summer 1943, when the fate of the war hung in the balance. Designed by Ernie Copley, this 1-to-2 player game features low-to-moderate complexity, making it accessible to newcomers while still challenging veteran wargamers. Scenarios for Barbarossa, Fall Blau, and Kharkov-Kursk can be completed in about an hour, while the full campaign runs approximately 4 hours. A unique chit-pull system governs player resources, and each turn players choose between Pass, Attrition, or Offensive options. Historical elements like partisans, Lend-Lease, weather, and armor superiority add realism, while 40 variant cards featuring General Vlasov's army, Katyusha rockets, and more ensure every game plays differently. Components include an 18" x 26" mounted full-color map, three sheets of 5/8" die-cut counters, play aids, variant cards, rulebook, scenario book, and two six-sided dice. Recommended for ages 18 and up.
