Black Swan #103: Cornered Wolf
A Cornered Wolf - Historically the Soviets became aware of the existence of Hitler’s military headquarters in Rastenburg, Prussia (nicknamed “The Wolf ’s Lair” by the German military— Wolf was Hitler’s codename) from prisoner interrogations during Operation Bagration. In August 1944, Soviet reconnaissance planes overflew the zone, dropping leaflets with lists of German personnel working there, urging them to defect now, or be held accountable.
So, what if earlier the Soviets had dropped…something else? A Cornered Wolf is an “alt-hist” game that explores what could have happened had Stalin decided to launch an attack (Operation “Wolf Hunt”) in July or August against the Nazi dictator’s command headquarters.
This two-player game comes with one 11" x 17" map, a set of 80 die-cut counters, and rules. The map depicts the Rastenburg HQ area with its multiple security zones and defenses. How well will they stand up to an air assault? Could the war end with this thunderclap event or will it be a a case of almost?" Use A Cornered Wolf to explore this fascinating "what if."
