With enemy tanks on the prowl, the German army has developed several weapons to deal with them. One of these is the relatively lightweight 3.7cm TaK gun, built by Rheinmetall. It has the ability to penetrate enemy tanks’ armour and knock them out. Its low profile also makes it suitable to move across no-man’s-land to support the infantry.

The ‘New Model’ 7.6cm Minenwerfer (mine thrower) was light enough to be moved by its crew. Mounted on a traversing plate it could fire its 4.5 kg (9.9lb) high explosive projectile 1300 metres (1400 yards). One of the key differences between the British Stokes mortar and the German Minenwerfer was the German weapons were rifled.

The Granatenwerfer 16 (grenade thrower model 1916) is light and mobile spigot mortar and was often carried foward with the attack. It had a range of about 300 metres (330 yards). A practiced crew could maintain a rate of fire of 4 to 5 rounds per minute.
