Initially the weapons development was slow, but priority was soon bumped up after Operation Barbarossa in 1941 with the appearance of heavy Soviet armour like the KV-1. The first Rheinmetall guns rushed off the production line in November 1941. It was to mount a gun that penetrated 100mm of armour at a 1500m and also be able to withstand return fire from similar weapons. Henschel developed the VK3601, but this design was to have a squeeze bore weapon, which had to be abandoned due to the lack of an adequate supply of tungsten for the ammunition. This was known as the BP42, and with later additions, the BP44. These new trains borrowed from the captured designs’ increased artillery capability over the existing German trains. They also overcame some of the perceived design flaws in the captured trains by splitting the artillery car in two, leaving only one gun on each car and thereby reducing loss of firepower if an artillery car was knocked out. Modern anti-aircraft guns and tank-hunter cars were also added making a formidable self-contained fighting unit.

THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS:

1x resin and metal BP44 Armoured Train Infantry Car

These miniatures are supplied unassembled and unpainted
The German Panzer IV was one of the most widely used medium tanks of World War II.
